An active antenna is an antenna-integrated radio that combines the antenna, radio, tower mounted amplifier, feeder, and jumper functionalities into one single unit.
This antenna can largely simplify the construction of radio sites and improves performance.
It also allows the construction of radio solutions with individual antenna elements, making it the ideal architecture to introduce Massive MIMO with advanced beamforming.
In Ericsson Radio system, we offer a complete high performing active antenna portfolio, for both macro and street macro environments. In our portfolio, antenna integrated radio products are called AIR. We also have antenna integrated radios that can operate the RAN Compute process, that we call Street Macros.
